John Keenan Hersey, AICP, LEED AP ND
Founding Principal 
 

John has worked at the intersection of multimodal mobility and community development for more than 15 years, including roles with municipal, regional, state, and federal transportation-planning agencies, affordable-housing intermediaries, and colleges in Boston, Denver, and Washington DC. 

John earned a bachelor's degree in sustainable urban planning and a master's degree in regional planning from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, a master's degree in real estate development from the University of Maryland - College Park, and various professional certificates. 

Prior to starting SUPA, John supported transit-oriented development programs at Enterprise Community Partners, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in Boston. In addition to leading SUPA, John teaches studios and lectures at the University of Colorado-Boulder's Environmental Planning Program and coordinates its sustainable planning and urban design major. 

When not researching best practices, analyzing data, or facilitating community conversations, John enjoys exploring the great outdoors and learning in the living laboratory of great places.
